“The Alchemist” in Maori.

Today the Maori edition of The Alchemist is published by Auckland University Press as part of a national project to preserve the language spoken by 150,000 speakers in New Zealand, along with three other works by Dr. Seuss, J.K Rowling and Tīmoti Kāretu.  Only four books for adults have been published in Maori over the last decade.

With this new edition, at present, The Alchemist has been translated into 83 languages.

During the presentation of project at the University of Auckland, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, “It encourages us to experience the joy of reading, but also brings te reo to the world.”
